It's no secret that cats like their comfort. Whether that's on top of your bookshelf or snuggled up at your feet depends on the individual cat, but they all love to be pampered.

A heated cat bed may sound a bit over the top, but your cat may really enjoy the extra warmth it provides. It can also help older cats who have some health problems. With that said, here are six heated beds that will have your cat purring.

The Best Heated Cat Beds

How will you choose a cat bed? Does the breed of your cat matter? What about age, and where you live? There are many heated cat beds available, and what you choose will depend on a number of different factors.

Not All Heated Beds Are Created Equal

Does your cat actually need a heated bed? And if it does, which one should you buy? There are so many options, and not all cats have the same needs. Not to worry, we've got you covered.

Luxury or Necessity? That Is the Question

Do you have a hairless cat? Or perhaps your beloved pet has developed arthritis and is feeling their age. If that's the case, then a heated bed can definitely go a long way towards helping your cat feel warm and loved.

Other cats who may benefit from a heated bed include cats who live outdoors, reside in houses that don't heat as well, or just seem to like snuggling up on the heater.

For younger cats who have plenty of fur, a heated bed might be a little much for them. Their fur will naturally keep them warm, and they may not appreciate the extra heat.

I'm Ready to Buy!

If you've seen a bed you think your cat will finally be pleased with, don't buy it just yet. There are a few things to keep in mind.

This Temperature Is Just Right

Like Goldilocks from the Three Bears, your cat most likely has a temperature that is just right for them. Some cats may prefer more heat than others, so it's nice to have a bed with an adjustable temperature.

Not all beds come equipped with this, so it's something you'll have to check before you buy. It's a wise decision, however, especially as your cat ages and its needs change.

Whether to Buy Electric

Not all heated beds are created equal. While there are some that do require electricity, you can purchase a cat bed that doesn't require cords.

Some cat beds are self-heating, meaning your cat warms up its own bed. Other beds have pads that can be heated up in the microwave.

Indoors or Outdoors?

Some beds are designed for the great indoors, such as the aforementioned electric beds. Some cats prefer to live life in the great outdoors, and may not be pleased by your efforts to convince them of how wonderful life is inside.

If you have an outdoor cat, never fear. There are beds that can be placed outside for your beloved cat, so they don't have to feel the cold winter wind. A self-heating bed would be perfect for this. The microwave pads would work as well, but only if you know your cat is waiting to snuggle up in its bed. Otherwise, the pad will cool down, and you may face a chilly reception from your cat when you see it next.

How Long Will Your Cat's Bed Last?

Like your own bed, you'll want to wash your cat's bed. Tossing an electric heated bed in the washing machine may not turn out so well, however, so make sure it comes with a removable cover. This will allow you to remove the cover and wash it while leaving the rest of the bed behind.

What Type of Bed Does Your Cat Prefer?

Cats are notorious for having their own personalities, so what works for one cat may not work for another. For example, does your cat like to be on display at all times, so you can see what true perfection looks like? If this is the case, your cat will probably like a flat bed.

Other cats like to have borders so that they can snuggle up in the corners. Shy cats may prefer to have a cover over their heads, so they feel like they're protected. Thankfully, there are tons of beds out there for whatever your cat may like.

Final Words of Advice

Pleasing your cat doesn't have to be hard. If you know what your cat prefers, finding the perfect bed is a simple matter of searching online. Depending on your budget, you'll be sure to find something your cat will love.
